About

Elden Ring is a single-player action RPG, and that fact changes what a date on its page means almost completely. There is no seasonal schedule and no regular content cadence to plan around. FromSoftware updates this game when it has something to change, which can be several times a year or can be quiet for long stretches.

The 2022 Shadow of the Erdtree expansion was the largest single content release in the game's history and it remains the reason most players bought. Since then the updates have been a mix of balance work, new equipment, and quality-of-life changes rather than new areas. Balance changes in particular are frequent, and they matter: this is a game where a small percentage adjustment to a weapon or ash of war can move a build several tiers in effectiveness overnight.

That makes the patch notes genuinely worth reading rather than skimming, even if you are not currently playing. Knowing which weapon was just nerfed is the difference between a fun evening and a wasted one, and there is no other public signal that tells you.

The other thing to understand is the free-form structure. There is no next update in the sense that most players mean it. There is no new zone coming, because the game is already open and there is nothing gated behind progress. A date on this page is more likely to be a balance pass or a new item than a content drop, and the size of any individual patch in this game should not be compared to the size of a live-service season.

If you want the version of this that does have a published schedule, FromSoftware's multiplayer spin-offs ship as separate standalone entries with their own release dates. Those are a different set of games with a different rhythm, and we track them separately.
