About

Grand Theft Auto Online has its own release rhythm that is entirely separate from the single-player games. Since its 2013 launch it has been updated as a persistent online world with quarterly content drops, each bringing a new business or property, new vehicles, and a new reward.

The quarterly cadence is remarkably consistent and is the single most useful fact for tracking this game. Each drop is tied to a calendar quarter, so the schedule is predictable in a way most live-service games are not. New properties also have a redemption window after launch, and missing that window means missing the property permanently, which gives the dates real stakes rather than making them decorative.

Separate from the quarterly drops, weekly and monthly bonus rewards run continuously. These are much smaller but they compound, and a player who only logs in on content-drop days is leaving a significant amount of in-game progression on the table.

Rockstar also folds platform-wide promotions into this cadence. Double rewards weekends and platform exclusives arrive alongside drops rather than on their own schedule, and they are frequently the fastest way to progress on a new property if you have the time to spend on them.

The most important thing to know about a date on this page is which kind of update it is. A quarterly drop date is a hard deadline because of redemption windows. A bonus reward date is not. Treating them as the same thing leads to planning badly.
